Bike MS: 2009 NEWBIE RIDER PLAN For those new to cycling and those new to the event
Thinking of Joining Us at The Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride 2009? First, thank you for wanting to participate in our 26th Annual ride. A ride where you will commit to raise a minimum of $350 and ride 40 to 175 miles may seem a bit overwhelming, but we are here to guide you through the adventure.
Train, train and train. The 150 miles of the Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride are challenging miles. But a little training and preparation will make the ride easier and more enjoyable. Click below and read about some simple steps to bicycling success: Training & Bicycle Safety
A list of training rides hosted by bike partners and participating teams is also be posted online. These are a great way to meet other cyclists and learn how to ride safely in large groups.

Read your riders’ handbook, newsletters, and Web site as information becomes available. These publications are full of very helpful information regarding the Ride for cyclists, friends, family and clients. These publications will give you updated information and any last-minute changes.
Consider forming a TEAM Recruit family, friends, and co-workers and unite in creating a world free of MS. A team consists of four or more riders and is a great way to build team work and demonstrate community involvement while having a ton of fun! Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate Drink plenty of fluids before the big weekend. Even if you don't feel thirsty while riding, your body needs plenty of fluids to keep it going. Drinking plenty of fluids before the ride will help you have a safe and enjoyable ride.
Pack smart Packing for the Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride should be easy. The National MS Society will carry two pieces of luggage for you, up to 50 pounds, from San Francisco to Healdsburg and back. While packing may consist of clothes, smart items to carry with you while riding are your driver's license, medical insurance card and emergency contact information.
Have fun! Enjoy yourself on the ride! Remember, this is a Bike ride aimed to create awareness about MS, this is not a race. There will be cyclists of all levels on their bikes. You will never be alone. Have fun and make this a memory of a lifetime.
